Volume Stability of Cement Paste Containing Limestone Fines

چکیده

The common cause of cracking in cement paste is shrinkage due to different reasons, such as loss water and chemical reactions. Incorporating limestone fines (LF) a replacement can affect the paste. To examine this effect, five mixes were prepared with 0, 5, 10, 15 20% LF water-to-binder ratio (w/b) 0.45. Four volume stability tests conducted for each paste: chemical, autogenous drying expansion. Chemical was tested hour first 24 h thereafter every 2 days total period 90 days. shrinkage, expansion monitored until results showed that replacing 15% enhanced However, found increase between 0 10% decline sharply at LF. Decalcification shrinkage of cement paste

Decalcification of cement paste in concrete is associated with several modes of chemical degradation including leaching, carbonation and sulfate attack. The primary aim of the current study was to investigate the effects of decalcification under saturated conditions on the dimensional stability of cement paste. Thin (0.8 mm) specimens of tricalcium silicate (C3S) paste, white portland cement (W...

ESTIMATING THE 95 th PERCENTILE OF THE PASTE- VOID SPACING DISTRIBUTION IN HARDENED CEMENT PASTE CONTAINING AIR ENTRAINMENT

The spacing equations of Powers, Philleo, and Pleau and Pigeon are used to estimate the uniform thickness of paste surrounding entrained air voids that is required to encompass 95 % of the air-paste system. Spacing equation accuracy is determined by comparison to the numerically exact result of Lu and Torquato. The air void system is approximated by spheres with radii from a lognormal distribut...

Low-Temperature Curing Strength Enhancement in Cement-Based Materials Containing Limestone Powder.

With the ongoing sustainability movement, the incorporation of limestone powder in cementitious binders for concrete in the U.S. has become a subject of renewed interest. In addition to accelerating the early age hydration reactions of cementitious systems by providing additional surfaces for nucleation and growth of products, limestone powder is also intriguing based on its influence on low-te...

Onset of cohesion in cement paste.

It is generally agreed that the cohesion of cement paste occurs through the formation of a network of nanoparticles of a calcium-silicate-hydrate ("C-S-H"). However, the mechanism by which these particles develop this cohesion has not been established. Here we propose a dielectric continuum model which includes all ionic interactions within a dispersion of C-S-H particles. It takes into account...

The application of waterworks sludge ash to stabilize the volume of cement paste.

In order to extend the recycling of waterworks sludge to engineering applications, this paper addresses the influence of nano-SiO2 on incinerated waterworks sludge ash (IWSA) cement paste attacked by sulfate. Tests were performed such as length measurement for volume change, compressive strength, weight loss, and micro-structural testing using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results ind...
